Marine Digital
Camera
Have you thought about owning a marine digital
camera? Perhaps you are an experienced diver going to
unimaginable depths.
You can record what you see with one of these great digital
cameras loaded with all the same features as a regular digital
camera.
The amazing plants and animals seen in the unerwater world
need to be recorded thus requiring a marine digital camera to
capture them on film. The average waterproof camera is not able
to go several meters below the surface like a marine digital
camera can.
If you are a professional diver it is worth the extra
expense to get a name brand, high quality marine digital
camera. These cameras are quaranteed to withstand the deep
water pressures thus preventing leaks and the possibility of
losing once in a lifetime photos.
There are less expensive marine digital cameras that are not
guaranteed below a certain depth. These cameras can be
protected with water proof, clear plastic cases. The cases can
be less expensive then a professional underwater marine digital
camera, but they may still leak and you will be at risk of
losing rare photos.
Suggestions for
Underwater Photography:
Underwater light causes diffusion and distortion. The deeper
you go the more effect the light will have on your photo
images. This can be offset by changing the white balance on
your camera settings. Also subjects will appear larger so
caution needs to be taken when using the zoom feature. All
these effects will have to be considered when setting up your
shot.
The waterproof case can be compromised by something as small
as a human hair. Check the camera and case carefully before the
dive. Try submering it for a few seconds in shallow water.
Silica gel packs can be useful in reducing moisture and can be
used if they fit into the camera case.
Optional lenses are a great addition to your camera
supplies. You may not want to get too close to a great white
shark. A marine digital camera with an added lense can capture
a clos-up looking shot without getting that close. This could
be a life saver... literally!
When diving in salt water it is adamant that the marine
digital camera be thoroughly washed after each use. The salt
can become crystalized and can cause leaks. Sand is another
element that can become lodged in a piece of equipment.
By checking out the various brands such as Sony, Nikon or
Cannon at their respective websites you can compare features
and costs of marine digital cameras. Some of these sites may
offer online specials getting you into a new camera for
possibly much less than you had anticipated.
